DLA payment in my account, but no notification from DWP?

We applied for DLA for 3 yo DS2 last month. He has no diagnosis, but has severe speech and language delay and is undergoing assessment for ASD. To us, he clearly has ASD.

The form only got to them 10 days ago. We've received an acknowledgment of receipt, but there is a payment £330 odd in our account from DWP. We would not be eligible for any other benefit or payment.

Has anyone else received money just whilst they're considering the application? Is it normal to make an interim payment and then maybe take it back if the application is not approved? Or does this maybe mean that we have been successful? I expected us to be turned down for a 3yo at first application, and can't quite believe it.

We recently started receiving DLA and got a payment before we were given an award letter, and got the letter a few days latet. It just means that the letter takes a bit longer to arrive than the money.

Both times we got a payment then a confirmation of the award a few days later. Remember if you phoned and requested a paper form they will have backdated it to the date you requested it. Smile

Wow - then we must have been successful. I am so pleased. Thank you all. I was certain that our first application would be turned down, as he is so young and has no diagnosis, despite having obvious needs.

We have introduced a gluten free diet, which means that the special GF foods are more expensive, we are paying for private speech and language therapy, and are soon to start an ABA programme. So the DLA will be useful towards that.

Yes it will be an award, call them up and they will tell you the rate/ length of award. Or just divide £330 by the number of weeks since the date in the form to work out the rate.

My guess would be middle rate care - six weeks worth.
Or HRC four weeks worth.

Received confirmation today that we have middle rate, so £55.10. For two years. So happy Smile

Don't forget you may be entitled to other benefits now too eg Carers Allowance if you earn less than £110 per week.
