Apologies if either or both have been posted before (quite likely the first one has), but thought these might be interesting:

  1. Richard Bailey, famous for his Down's syndrome calendars, has just produced a book called 'To Be A Dad' - It is a lovely little gift book full of beautiful and funny photographs of babies coupled with quotes about fatherhood and parenthood. The images combined with the quotes show a wit, simplicity and edginess that will delight all new and expectant parents, especially fathers. It is the perfect stocking filler! You can buy it from the BaileyHart website: www.baileyhartpublishing.com or from Amazon or any other bookstore.
Look out for ?To Be A Mum? and "To Be A Grandparent " which will be coming out next year.
  1. Casting is beginning on a ninety-minute film for BBC1, which will film in London and Snowdonia in March/April 2007. We are looking for a young actor who has Down's syndrome, to play the part of 16 year old Ben. See attached for more information.

COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN
by MARK HADDON
(Author of THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME)

Casting is beginning on a ninety-minute film for BBC1, which will film in London and Snowdonia in March/April 2007.

We are looking for an actor with Down's Syndrome to play one of the central characters - a 16 year old called Ben.
Ben is shrewd, stubborn, funny and kind - and keen to find a girlfriend.
Life would be good - if only he got on better with his 15 year old brother David, who resents the attention that Ben gets in the family. The
developing relationship between the brothers as they learn to appreciate each other is the core of the film.

Please contact Jill Trevellick, the casting director on the film, by phone, e-mail or letter - numbers and addresses above - if you think you might be suitable for the part of Ben, or to suggest someone who would like to audition.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: DECEMBER 1ST 2006.
