Blossom Lower School, Paddington Green

Hi - I posted this elsewhere, but was advised to post here, as there is more traffic.

Is there anyone here who attends/has attended Blossom Lower School and can share their thoughts on it? We are interested in it for my 6 year old son who has ASD and is statemented. He is bright and has little in the way of challenging behaviour (no meltdowns or aggression). I believe his minor unwanted behaviours would be eradicated by a focus on his communication skills and a sensorily more agreeable environment (he's currently in state mainstream). His most significant area of difficulty is social, although that manifests as a lack of interest rather than any problematic behaviours.

I'm also interested in views on the parent school.

Hi op, is blossom hill a school which also takes children with an asd diagnosis? The only reason I ask is that a quick scan of the website seemed to suggest it was primarily a school for children with speech and communication difficulties - I'd just clarify that it also takes children with an asd dx.

It is primarily an SL school, but 50% of their intake have an ASD diagnosis. I think the filter is that of those with ASD diagnoses, the SL difficulties should be the primary issue, i.e. they are not set up to deal with significant behaviour challenges, etc.

The Paddington Green branch just opened in 2013. So not many people would of heard much about this branch. Though many people are very familiar with the Wimbledon Branch.

Hopefully, someone on here would know some information about the school enough to post.

Yarnie, can I just ask what unwanted behaviours you believe are linked to lack of speech and sensory issues. I'm just curious because my ds 6 has asd and has just started coupling 2 words together and knowing to say "I want". In my area we don't have a speech and language school and I just wondered if I should perhaps look further afield.
However, my ds does get aggressive and have meltdowns when he cannot communicate his needs or is told no, so I wonder if that would rule us out anyway.

I assume they mean challenging behaviours, violent outbursts etc..

I think that's it, Adrianna. I don't think they are equipped to deal with frequent meltdowns/aggression, etc. My son is more the shutting down type...
