Called 'The Science of Teaching' because that of course is exactly what ABA is. Kids with SN need a systematic evidence based approach, because without it, chances are they won't learn.
It includes contributions by two people who have had an enormous influence on my practice as a BCBA, namely Mike Beverley and Rick Kubina. Mike is one of the foremost experts on Precision Teaching in Europe, as is Rick in the States.

There's a great bit in by the illustrious Karola Dillenberger too in which she says that instead of talking about targets, people need to start working on them. So true! Many educators and HCPs think once the IEP or ICP is filled in (to be stuffed in a filing cabinet and forgotten) then that's the end of the job. Very little talk of the nuts and bolts of DOING it.

Oh yes, the paperwork thing.

Parents of children with SEN are always telling me how happy they are that their children are now on the SEN register until I ask 'Why, what is the register going to do, jump out of the filing cabinet and teach your child maths?'.

Seeing Mike again makes me SOOOOOOO want to study again. Making plans.......40 isn't too old right?

Well I don't think you will get a better chance than that.
It will look perverse if you reject it.
Nothing is perfect for anyone or anything.
It's a chance of best fit.
For what it's worth I think kids learn really useful stuff even in duff schools.
How to muck in, wait your turn, cope with changes, moving about en masse and so on.

And no 30 not too old. I became a BCBA at 46. I like to think I have at least 20 more years of work ahead of me

Moondog It isn't an offer. It will require a fight using substantial resources to get it, and the motivation behind its very existence makes it a bit risky.

Spring chicken!

I sent it to a number of teacher friends of mine. The response is unanimous. They watched it through a mix of fascination and horror.

How can that be? I watched it with a sense of relief at some bloody common sense.
