My granddaughter has chronic OCD and seperational disorder, she is going to see CAHMS in the week,as she was seeing someone from there at her school, she has been referred to a higher experienced one (middle ) we've been waiting to see the person since before Christmas, now my granddaughter is really in a bad way she's having really bad panic attacks at school, and at home screening, its really frightening to watch her, it can start over a piece of paper she handed in, she thinks she needs to do it again all sorts of things like that, if she thinks her mum may be going outs sets her off, her intrusive thoughts are constant she should be seeing there. Top people, and to top it of it should an accredited CBP,I've looked up the person she will be seeing it seems she deals with baby and family problems my granddaughter is 12, no mention of CBP, on the OCD website it's all about CBP with medication which will take 4 weeks to get going, so I can see this this person will be referring her again as she will be out of her league, my poor granddaughter or her mum dad and brother won't be able to cope much more its rulling the house, do we have to go through CAHMS for the medication could we get it from a private proper accredited therapist, we live in south east London, if so dose anybody recommend one near us

Was she referred to CAMHS by school or by GP?

My ds now 18 has had severe OCD since the age of 8. He is much better now though still on medication. Your granddaughter will need to see a psychiatrist to get medication prescribed. It should help but is not a solution on its own and it may take a while to find the right type and dosage.
You are right that she will also need skilled CBT.

As you are in south east London you are very near the Maudsley which has the national centre of excellence for the treatment of OCD in young people at the Michael Rutter Centre. My ds was treated there and it made an enormous difference to him. We don't live anywhere near London so it took a while to get our referral through but it should be easier for you.

I would go to the GP and ask for a referral to the Maudsley.
