How do I find out about residential placements for a young person/adult with autism?

My friends teenage son has autism (LF, nonverbal) and needs 24 hour care. She is starting to think about residential placement for him when he leaves school at 19. It needs to nearby for week ends at home. Is there anywhere to look at what is available,(like the Gabbitas guide for SN schools) or is it just a case of searching the internet and asking around?

Try the Natspec website.

where abouts in the country are we talking?

Thank you mojitoice. I have now looked there. It is useful for residential colleges. There doesn't seem to be any central place that lists all adult supported living options. I keep finding small charities that have a house or service here or there. It would be useful if all charities involved in supporting young adults with a particular condition were listed somewhere.
