Autism assessment for ds next week... Without ds present! Is this normal? What should I expect?

Ds has seen various paeds etc (see my other thread about half day exclusion), and I now have an appointment for an autism assessment for him, but they've told me to come alone as they don't need to see him. Is this usual? What should I expect/ask?

Thanks :)

We've been over all that already with him present, so seems a bit pointless tbh. I just can't see how they can assess him for autism without him being there iykwim? Although, yes, if agree that it's better for him to discuss him without him hearing as it upsets him. I'm losing the will to live with all this :(

Do they have enough info to be telling you about a dx?

Wozald1989 · 22/02/2015 08:13

Maybe they are doing a 3di?

I've not heard of a 3Di or ADI - is it part of the diagnostic process?

It's never standard is it? I was told over the phone ( mind you it's not a formal dx yet)

deadwitchproject · 22/02/2015 10:24

thanks polter.

Dd3 was assessed using a DISCO assessment which didnt need her to be present, she had already had a SAL assessment and OT and a MH practitioner had spent time with her and us putting evidence together.

We had to go twice for around 2 hours and then again for the result, which was a diagnosis od ASD!

Dd3 had been through enough and didnt need to be there for all that!!

Good luck Flowers

Mine will be having a 3di which is a computer based test that takes about 1 hour and a half.
Basically questions that you've answered before-all the usuals but at the end you should have a conclusive answer

Thanks everyone! Sounds like it might be normal then!
