Ds's annual statement review - interaction with peers/struggling in MS

Have Ds's annual statement review this afternoon. He has been at a resource base within a ms infants since September. He is 4.7, non verbal and is thought to have a syndrome called Kleefstra Syndrome.

He has been doing so well at school, and on the whole we are happy with the way things are going. The report from the head teacher of the resource base has pointed out that Ds only interacts with adults, and has no interest in peers, so I think they want to start trying to encourage him to interact with peers more. It seems definitely a 'thing' with Kleefstra Syndrome (and other conditions as well, I guess) to be happier around adults than other children. He also seems to be struggling when they try to take him into Mainstream, shutting down and clinging to his 1-1.

Any suggestions of things that have helped with your dcs would be great, and a few honks for luck too -thankyou!

My DS is 6 and has ASD, he is also much happier with adults than other children. When he was in nursery he did very short sessions with his 1-1 and one other child playing a board game together, I think they started with 2 minute sessions and gradually built up to 5 minutes. It did really help. Now he's at school with no 1-1 or any other support, and he's definitely struggling again with interacting with the other children.

Hope the review goes well, honk honk!

Thankyou, Borka

I think I am going to suggest they set up an activity for him and another child from ms, but in the resource base, if that isn't a problem. I think if they choose the right child it could help. He is so willing to communicate (albeit non verbally) with a trusted adult, but just blanks other children.
