Has anyone heard of this treatment or place? can't do links but web address is www.advancecentre.org.uk .I've never heard of it before but noticed a conversation about it on the new Scope website forums. It's only about 45 mins away from me but i'm a bit sceptical!! Can any of you lovely ladies shed any light on it? thanks

I haven't Mabs, but will read it with interest.

I would wait for the Bradford University results, maybe get on the waiting list in the meantime? I am a bit of a skeptic but I really think you need to be careful and look for evidence of effectiveness, not lovely stories from parents I'm afraid. I've seen so many of these theories and breakthroughs that don't have evidence other than annecdotal and parents become slaves to them and spend a LOT of money. Be cautious but optimistic!
While on the subject, I heard something on Radio 4 a while ago about Conductive Education for CP (I think), does anyone know about this? Is it old news to you parents of chidren with CP?

NOt yet Mabs, been running around all yesterday and today, but I have stored it for later. I WILL read it tho, promise!

Conductive Education is v well known Davros, probably mostly through the PETO institute. It's basically a type of therapy. The therapists in my area are Bobath trained, which is another type, and there are others, like Cheyne. Plus a multitude of spin off and "alternative " options.

Davros · 20/04/2004 19:59

thanks Lou, of course I know about Bobath as I drive past it all the time but not the others. Amazing how little I know though and there's so much (too much!) to learn.....

Mabs, i just a had a bit of a look , and have to say I have mixed feelings about it. I'm not too keen on places that supply reams of compliments by satisfied clients, but that is probably just my cynicism, it smacks of trying to prove how great they are too much, to me. I have heard of the Hyperbaric treatment mentioned on one of the pages though, but iirc results have been somewhat inconclusive. I wouldn't mind chatting via email about it if you want?
