She start pre-school on Monday - deep breaths all round!!

I know it'll be fine, of course it will but she's just so small and defenceless

She was 2 a week before Christmas and I've decided to get her into a pre-school now because I really want her to be interacting with her peers more. Then when she starts at the Montessori school in September she'll be used to being around lots of other children etc. I just think she's needs to be practising her social skills with other children more and it could really help her development etc etc, (this is me justifying why I?m doing this now when I?m not sure if she?s really ready for it)

It's just that she still looks like such a little diddy doll, she?s so small! It's because she's not standing unless you force her to and only then fully supported by your legs or a table. She can't get down off a chair and get away from anyone if she wants to. She'll be fully dependent on the teachers, unable to ask properly for anything, tell them what?s just upset her or remove herself from an overly boisterous child

I know she has to deal with it and so do I, and I know it'll all be fine eventually and it's all for the best and all that. I just feel REALLY nervous and protective and a bit lump in the throatish iykwim!

Have decided to just take her in then leave straight away and wait outside with mobile in hand waiting for the call to say ?come and get her she?s really had enough?!

That's it really, just needed to come on here and spill that out, you know how it is

mummysurfer · 19/04/2004 09:21

they'll be fine.

lou33 · 19/04/2004 09:48

He's there right now, GULP! I have to stay at home and look after dd2 and ds1, because they are still off school.

Kayleigh · 19/04/2004 10:49

Lou and Thomcat, just thinking about you. Let us know how it goes. X

mummysurfer · 19/04/2004 10:52

is he there all day Lou?

tamum · 19/04/2004 10:55

I'm thinking of you both; bet the children are having a ball, but I can imagine how you are feeling, TC and lou. Good luck!

princesspeahead · 19/04/2004 11:38

best of luck thomcat, hope it all went well.
I cried with both mine too!
My ds1 (3) started talking about a little boy at his nursery who started after half term last term called Josh - if asked who his friends were he'd always say Josh and Charlotte first. Anyway I only saw Josh for the first time today - and he is a little boy with Downs! Must say he appears to love it there, and is a great favourite with everyone. He does 3 mornings a week, his mum told me. I'm sure Lottie will be just as much at home there very soon.

Quick hijack of TC's thread (sorry TC!). He got home just after midday. Dh said he generally had a good time, though there were a few moments when he was wobbling (ds not dh that is!). He got upset when the dance teacher came in to do movement and dancing (he's v aware that he can't join in as others can), so he ended up playing with the cars instead. A positive start on the whole though, and his OT turned up to show the nursery how to lift/move /seat him. Thanks for all your good wishes

lou33 · 19/04/2004 13:19

ANd TC, am dying to hear about Lottie, hurry up!

mummysurfer · 19/04/2004 13:20

glad it went well.

tamum · 19/04/2004 13:21

Oh bless him about the dancing, it's such bad timing that it happened on his first morning. Glad he enjoyed himself otherwise though . How are you feeling, lou? Relieved or still worried?
xx

lou33 · 19/04/2004 13:22

I'll let you know on Thursday when he goes again, and I can go too Tamum!

marthamoo · 19/04/2004 13:23

Lou, about the dancing but for everything else. Do you feel a bit happier now?
I have been thinking about you and TC all morning, and hoping your babies got on OK.

marthamoo · 19/04/2004 13:24

Oh sorry, tamum already asked you that (hangover.....)

Come on, Thomcat! We're waiting for your news!

Hulababy · 19/04/2004 16:55

Excellent news Lou.

Hope Lottie had a good day too.

Thomcat · 19/04/2004 17:32

I've been dying to get on here and tell you all day.

It was AMAZING!!! Really couldn't have gone better. Feel like a right fool!!

D and I both took her, walked in, sat her down on mat with 10 ton of lego and we told the teacher that we'd packed her some water etc and then we said bye to L and gave her a kiss. She looked up from the mat, waved and blew us a kiss then started playing with the lego!!!!!

And I didn't cry!!!

I then hung round at home and waited for them to ring and say 'come and get her, she's exhausted and won't stop crying', but the call never came. She lasted the whole 3 hours and when I went to collect her she was being cuddled by teacher and was covered in felt tip with 3 bits of artwork for the fridge door!

She flung herself into my arms and really squeezed me, stayed there in the crook of my neck for a minute and then pointed around the room to different things!

I was SO happy.

She sparked out in the car before I'd got her home

Can't wait for her second day on Wednesday now

Lou - Was really thinking you and sending you good vibes as I hung out my washing today! Glad it went well for DS and you too. Give us an update won't you xxx

Oh what a relief! That's just fantastic TC, I loved the idea of her cuddling in to you but then evidently dying to show you everything she'd been up to! Well done, it was obviously a great choice.

lou33 · 19/04/2004 17:38

You know what TC I haven't been able to stop thinking about you and Lottie all day! I'm so glad it went so well .

No artwork today, but he came home smiling. He's told me he watched the dancing for a bit, and they had a story, played out. Dh took some pictures of his first day as well. He wants to go back, which is good news.

I know they will spoil him rotten at the nursery . Ds1 went there too and they had a soft spot for him as well.

Tamum - that was the highlight - the cuddle and then the exciting pointing! Just perfect

Cheers Galaxy - yes I was amazed that there were no tears at all from any of us!

Lou - god bless you, you're SO cute
It was nice to feel we were all sharing the day in some way
When does he go back then, is there everyday?
