aspergers child mimiking mothers voice?!

Hi

My 8 year old son is currently going through diagnosis for what we think is Aspergers. After his ADOS assessment this week the psychologist had a quick chat with us (no results yet...have to wait for that) she said she Couldn't Believe how much my son sounded like me?! It was like speaking to me? She made a point of saying this and I don't know what she was getting at? Is this a good sign for diagnosis? Does age mean his speech patterns mimic mine or am I looking into it too much? Does anyone here have a child who a professional say their aspergers child sounds so much like them? I'm hoping she didn't mean i sound autistic?!

BTW...I have never felt (nor anyone else) that my child sounds like me? She must be picking up on something in his language that we don't see??

My DD is an excellent mimic as well. She has certain phrases that I say that she uses over and over again. So I guess in some sense she does sound like me.

The other day when baby DS was trying to roll over mid nappy change I said "DS you're driving me up the wall", and when i left the room to go and wash my hands i could hear her explaining to him (he's 9 months old!) in my voice that he shouldn't be upset about what I said because I wasn't really going up the wall, it's just a saying. Which is something I say to her all the time!

I didn't mean hoping I don't sound autistic in an offensive way...I have an autistic child I meant does she think I'm autistic which would clearly be a shock to me for someone to suggest as I'm almost 38 years old and its never been suggested before.... I don't think she did mean or like that anyway

thank you all for your replies... I don't notice him using my phrases? I think she was more talking about tone and acent?? but then most kids have their parents acent so perhaps it's more than that

yes I think I will call her Monday (she's on leave till then) and ask her what she meant by it? she will probably think I'm bonkers [blush

I would say she was referring to phrasing as well. We have often been told ds sounds like an adult. His dx is aspergers.

Interesting that you didn't get the results on the day of the ados. Where we go they discuss while you wait and tell you onthe day.

I wish we could have the results... driving us crazy waiting! they have to go away and discuss together (the SALT and other consultant and the clinical psychologist.) then we will get an appointment to go back for results!! the SALT already told us her report which outlines significant difficulties...the waiting is driving me potty I feel like I'm losing my mind trying to second guess the outcome?...

DS2 has Asperger's. He has a very good ear for music, and also accents. He doesn't mimic me, but has been put on the g&t list for French due to being able to say everything exactly the way he hears it.

He also does echolalia, usually with a particular word, sound or phrase that is to his liking. Thankfully, this has got a lot less frequent with age.

In my experience of DS2 (all three parts of the triad of impairment quite noticeable, no verbal delay), the echolalia is a sensory, self-stimulating thing rather than a verbal development thing.

FWIW my Salt put in her report that DS spoke in a non local accent, I where I come from the accent is as broad as it comes (Scouse). It wasn't something I had picked up on, yet listening to him, I did notice he did have a different way of certain words and sounds. I guess it could be a variation of echolalia, picked up from TV rather than peers or family.

update for you! I called the clinical psychologist today and asked her outright! and no....she dosent think I'm autistic lol she meant my son uses large blocks of language which sound just like me. very adult like and same accent and exact same way as me.
