thats excellent news lou!!!!

How did you help her to do it, im only asking cos DD has CP and she,s 2.5 and showing no signs of potty training.

lou33 · 03/10/2006 11:40

its been a long road!

we didnt start til about 3 i think, he got a potty chair from ot, which he felt v proud using, but only for daytime initially.

we just increased his time out of nappies gradually over time, so he has been full time out of them in the day for a while now, esp since he started school in jan

i would consider putting one on him for longcar journeys tho as getting him in and out of the car into his w/c to a toilet etc, could be problematic if he got desperate

he was wearing them at night, and always wet, but one night last week i forgot to put one on him , and he was dry, so he asked to try again etc

im getting him a pressie to say well done

DD has just got her potty chair from OT this week, she loves it!!!!

She sits on it watching TV, but doesnt actually do anything on it but then stands up and says "Look mummy wee wee" she thinks that sitting on the potty is having a wee!!!!

Is it usual for kids with CP to take longer at toilet training, tbh i havent looked into toilet training before.

lou33 · 03/10/2006 15:49

it is usual, as they can suffer from a loss of sensation

your description of sitting on the potty chair is exactly hoe ds2 started,i am sure she will get there
