The Treasury and DfES have launched a review into disabled children's services. It means they are at least appearing to take seriously the lack of funding in current services with a view to increasing spending allocations in future years.
To boost the chances of this review having a good outcome, a new campaign has been launched:
Every Disabled Child Matters is a new campaign to get rights and justice for every disabled child. The campaign is looking for 10,000 supporters to sign up in support of the campaign by December 2006. Please log on to the the edcm site to register your support.'
Because the Campaign is hoping to get 10,000 supporters to sign up in support by December 2006, please pass this on to all your contacts/mention it to your friends etc.
It's a reputable campaign, being co-led by Mencap, Council for Disabled Children, Contact a Family and the broad alliance of the Special Education Consortium, and anyone can sign up - parents, professionals, friends etc.
Sorry if this has been posted before. I've only copied this from another site btw, I'm not personally involved.

Just signed but it wouold only let me tick the parent box. I am actually a trainee community music tutor and would like to specialise in working with children and young people with special mental and physical needs. There has to be more funding for areas like this.

Yes let me sign my daughter is 21 and it looks like things have not changed much. Beware though, its likely to get more interesting once your child has reached 18, special needs is for life!

It's just a pity that the system did not realise this. My eldest is 19 and we need to find someone to see him by Christmas because his DLA is up for renewal. He has seen no one since he turned 16 and we were signed off Child and Family. However my GP found out the hard way this week that the system think that our children lose their special needs once they are post 16. He can find no one to see him because his IQ is higher than 70. He is autistic. I don't think that my GP could believe it until he tried calling every professional in our area himself.

I now face finding the cost of private consultations or waiting to see if DLA will accept my GP's word for his condition.

Great 2shoes, was thinking I should've posted this in the general boards myself rather than just here.

I'm not thinking about my son post 18 today it's too scary for words, Oracle, Finchfive, let's hope things get better real soon x

Finchfive, there's a link on the second post of this thread which you have to click on to sign
