Statemented child and school

I have a daughter in primary school who has been statemented since starting school. I am not happy with the school who are not implementing her statement properly. The school had a not too good ofsted a year or two back which has resulted in nearly all the staff leaving including all senior management.

Has anyone got any experience to share on moving a statemented child at primary age and how did it go? If you move LA's how does that work?

I moved my child when he was in year 1 with a full time statement. It is not as easy as it should be!
The first problem was trying to find a school that would take him. I had quite a few schools that claimed they could not meet his needs but i think some of the problem was that they didn't want to take on such a complex child. I ended up putting him in a lower OFSTED rated school who actually turned out to be pretty good with him.
The other problem was the new LA wanted to reduce his hours when they adopted his statement. The eventually agreed to keep the statement as it was but it's a little money saving thing that some LA's like to try.

I've not moved within an LA but i would assume that you write to the LA and request a change of school once you have found somewhere that will take your DD. I think there are some rules about being in the placement a year before you can request a move but i don't know if this just applies to changing the type of placement e.g ms to ss or whether it applies to moving from ms to ms. If the placement has broken down and DD's needs are not being met then i think you have grounds to request a new placement.

Write to the LA detailing everything that isn't happening, point out that it is their responsibility to make it happen and ask them to do so immediately. If they don't, consider threatening to take judicial review proceedings.
