Black school shoes to fit over AFOs?

Trying to find some school shoes that will fit over DS's AFOs but not having much luck!

Last term we managed with black plimsoles but I'd really rather try and find something more suitable for colder wetter weather!

Always used to find cheap supermarket shoes a good bet for school but having trawled big Asda, Tesco, and Sainsburys stores NOTHING will go over them unless 3 sizes too big!

Has anyone managed to find any recently that they could recommend??

We used to go to an independent she shop who would spend the time fitting them. Would end up with clarks or similar in a big size. Velcro fastening ones were best.
One suggestion is to take out the insole that is already in the shoe which gives a bit more room.

Oooh great idea about the insole, why didn't I think of that!

Wishing I hadn't left it so late (as always!). Might make do with the plimsoles for the start of term and then make a trip to a good shoe shop when they have quietened down in a few weeks.

Thanks Starfish x

Although not shoes we have had a lot of success with Lonsdale hi tops with the sole removed. Only 1 size bigger so don't look too clown like

The other expensive option is Tomcat Twisters. They have black ones for school.

I didnt think of the insoles thing either...it was ds's orthoapedic surgeon who suggested it!! Shops might not like you doing it though unless you go somewhere self service!

Luckily ds is back in orthopaedic boots now!

We always get tomcat twisters on line, expensive but will outlive the splints.

Best shoes I have ever found for over splints, by a long margin

Found some perfect ones in Aldi of all places this morning!!

Black school shoes with a soft (cheap!) upper that open out nice and wide to fit splint-clad feet into. Fit really well, look smart, and less than £7 too! Wish I had bought him a couple of pairs now...

Sadly our funds won't stretch to the tomcat twisters at the moment, have bookmarked the page though for future reference!
