Can anyone recommend a good Medical Negligence lawyer.

As some of you will know. My ds2 (3 years) has a genetic anomaly on the 15th chromosome. My dh carries a balanced change on his 15th chromosome. When I was pregnant with ds2 I had a CVS test with the purpose of examining my ds2's 15 chromosome and it came back as ok.

Unfortunately it was not the case. I now have a beautiful son who has no real communication and lots of difficulties. We love him dearly and we now need to ensure that his future is as secure as possible.

It has been suggested that we may have a case for Medical Negligence, but I am not sure where to start. Has anyone got the contact details of a good medical negligence lawyer?

Merlot, I think Berwin Leighton are one of the big firms that do a lot of med. neg. cases IIRC. Leigh Day spring to mind as well. Or you could search the BBC website for stories about Alder Hey/Bristol Royal Infirmary and so on and see which solicitors are quoted.

Guess it would turn on what they told you about the reliability of the test, whether it can give false negatives and so on.

so what would your case be? that you would have aborted had you known? I think you should think about this really carefully before even contacting a lawyer because the future repercussions could be great.

SenoraPostrophe, I know where you're coming from and Yes, you are right it could have huge implications because ultimately I am aggrieved that I was denied the opportunity to consider termination. But it is more than that really: We consulted a geneticist BEFORE I was pregnant who recommended a CVS or Amnio if I became pregnant so as to determine whether I was having a child who was affected by the change. It was not made clear to us, in any shape or form, that a CVS or Amnio might not pick up the genetic change. Had we known that we were running that sort of risk, I would not have even tried to conceive in the first place, as we were lucky enough to already have one healthy son
