Motilium/Domperidone - anyone's dcs been told to stop?

Ds (4) takes Domperidone and Ranitidine for reflux.

His reflux is the best it has ever been, although he still has some nights where he is struggling.

We saw his paed today and he said that we would need to wean ds off domperidone as it has been associated with heart arrhythmias.

Has anyone else had to do this? Has your dc's reflux got worse? Were they prescribed anything else?

Thanks.

The GP has referred DS for a heart trace before deciding

Thankyou. Ds is due to see his cardiologist in December (he has a PDA), the genetic condition he is thought to have, comes with a risk of arrhythmias, so I guess that is why he has to come off it.

We were told to reduce it by a ml a month. I feel a bit panicked about it all.

Yes we were told to try and wean DS off Domperidone in April as despite having a normal ECG, he was on 15mgs X 4 a day.

Gave last dose Sunday apart from a few wretches so far so good but he is jejunal fed.

Decided risk was not worth it

We changed from domperidone to erythromycin (an antibiotic which has side effect of stomach emptying). Our consultant told us it is the most recent recommendation for reflux. Only need a really low dose. It works brilliantly and much less side effects than the domperidone.

We take it alongside omezaprol which reduces stomach acid.

So basically we found it worked better for our DS than domperidone.

Thankyou 2old and MissBluebird.

Very interesting about the erythromycin. I will email his paed and see what he says.

Very interesting about Erythromicin if retching continues will raise this with paed.
Forgot to say he has Omeprazole also

My child stopped taking domperidone and continues to take ranitidine. In our case, his symptoms improved, though I am sure every case is different. I remember the anxiety before he came off it, sorry you are going through this OP. Thanks
