I took the children to a National Trust castle on tuesday (on my own) and it cost a grand total of £3.90 for us all to look round. I was free because I was a carer, ds was free as he isnt quite 5 yet so we only had to pay for the girl in the wheelchair (dd) Thought it was fantastic value, even though she couldnt manage all the spiral staircases!

Hiya,

we joined the National Trust last year for about £46.00 for a family of 6. We visited somewhere every other weekend and it has just been the best value ever, plus the kids have learnt alot.

Ah but NT make you pay extra for special events even if you're a member. English Heritage are better and tend to be friendlier.

where did you go Fio? Have promise to go out as a family more often!!

we found this on holiday

nearly everywhere we went had some concession or other

I met some parents once who seemed to have turned it into some kind of profession; and they always got themselves to the beginning of the queues

haha capp!

Dingle we went to Tenterden, caught the train (K&ES railway) no concessions there but everyone was really helpful, helped on with bags etc. The train went to Bodiam and we walked round the castle. Stupid thing is I tried to get her to go up the spiral staircase and then scread myself halfway up It was so dangerous for her and me really, so I had to bellow down the 'UP ONLY' staircase that I was coming down! Lovely day though and weather was great

You can use tesco clubcard points for annual English Heritage membership, and you don't need many to get it. It's very much worthwhile.

I think this weekend it is free entry to most National Trust/English Heritage places. There was a thread about it the other day. Hold on.....
