Hi all
please don't be offended if you can't/don't want to donate, but I thought I would flag up here that the mumsnet giving week has been live since Friday and these 2 charitiy's donations haven't really got off the ground.

It seems to be an intermittent sticky on my active conversations which is a bit weird, but is on mnet homepage.

I've not seen anything about it, at all. Confused

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 02/06/2014 19:04

and this is being pointed up in here .. um, why? specifically?

Maybe I'm missing something here. I suppose I could refer to the thread about how many families with children with disabilities are among the very poor in society. Hmm

If you are concerned that something that is a sticky is not showing on active conversations, you should be bringing it up with MNHQ, not going section to section making people feel uncomfortable and sort of "shaming" people into giving.

sigh...

Yes, I know about the giving week, as well as what projects they are supporting. I just feel that if the OP notes there is some problem with it not showing up for everyone, then it should be brought up with MNHQ. JMHO.

I was noting the intermittent sticky in response to the subsequent poster.

I also said please don't be offended about my posting here if you can't or don't want to donate-that is absolutely no business of mine.

I had no intention of shaming people-i am upset by that accusation.

I merely thought that other people, like myself, who hsve a particular connection with the causes these charities support, would like the opportunity to support them and may not have noticed the event. I thought they may, as I often do jump straight to this board and miss it.
I was busybodying but I wasn't trying to shame people.

It's unfortunate that you are upset by my response. However, it does feel like subtle pressure for people to donate. And that is NOT what MN's Giving Week is all about.

If you were concerned that people on SN boards were not seeing it, a simple message to MNHQ asking if they could put a sticky at the top of the SNs boards linking to the Giving Week threads would have sufficed.

Regardless of saying "please don't be offended" and "no intention of shaming people"... saying this: "I thought I would flag up here that the mumsnet giving week has been live since Friday and these 2 charitiy's donations haven't really got off the ground" rather implies that it is OUR responsibility to get the donations up to snuff as we are some that (as you said) have a particular connection with the causes these charities support.

I get that you were perhaps not intending this, however, some here are under enough financial strain and daily pressure without more. A more thoughtful approach might have been better. Just saying.

I had ead that thread about poverty and disability too and I have been on this board for years so I am very aware of those issues.
I am also aware that I have supported causes raised specifically thtough this board eg money for a bike for a posters son. So there does seem to be posters who can and wantto donate here and I thought they may have missed ththat the week had started.
as I said - no offence meant.

As I said, if you'd like to raise awareness of Giving Week, you might want to contact MNHQ and simply ask them to put a sticky on the SNs boards linking to the Giving Week thread. Then people can look at it if they wish, without any pressure.

Hi there,

All our active stickies are now on rotation which is why they appear to be intermittent. You'll be glad to hear the hospice has received a very large donation recently, so it looks like things are picking up.
