As you all know we have had a really tough year with Dd3's school. Anyway to cut a very long story short I wrote to the SENCO expressing my disappointment in the support she has been providing. Anyway my letter has been passed on to the chair of governors and apparently he doesnt like the tone of my letter!!!

I have offered to meet him to explain why I am so pissed off and to show him the emails and texts and the folder full of stuff that has gone before the letter. Havent heard anything back yet!!

The final straw before I wrote the letter was 2 out of 3 IEP targets not being worked on for a whole term and senco failing to appear at a meeting we arranged by text to try to sort the whole mess out. We were in school meeting with the salt and she sent a TA to tell us she couldnt see us!! Also her telling the LA SEN rep that Dd3 doesnt need a SA!! Despite her suggesting to me that I should put in a parental request!!

I am not sure if I should have just zipped it and got through the next term until Dd3 leaves but why should we put up with the targets not being worked on when one of them was specifically to help her at secondary!! The other was simply to remind the staff to tell her about any changes which still isnt happening!! AngryAngry

At the end of the day this is about a child with Asd it doesnt really matter to me if I upset someone who is failing to do their job!!

Check the complaints procedure of your school, but I doubt you'll find "In the event of dissatisfaction, the SEN Governor shall pass a letter expressing your concerns to the HT, SENCO and CoG for their perusal, discussion and comment....'

Ineed I said that every time I spoke with someone. I said 'Look, I've got enough going on in my life to keep me very busy indeed...I don't need the attention and in fact would prefer to be an anonymous parent who slips in through the school gate, drops my child off, then slips out.'

No lougle I am sure you are right. Maybe I should read the complaints procedure, follow it and make it a formal complaint! At least they would have to respind then and not just sweep it under the carpet!

I would also prefer to be anonymous at school but sadly and like you cannot stand by and see Dd3 so unhappy Sad

This sounds sadly familiar Sad

I too was told, following complaints about lack of provision, that the leadership team didn't like my 'tone'. When I later made a formal complaint the Chair of Governors denied everything that had happened (despite me offering to supply full evidence) and refused to discuss anything further. They then threatened legal action against me if I continued to complain or dared to raise the issues with anyone else Hmm.

They were later found to have not adequately provided what was required in the statement and this was in fact considered to be one of the multiple acts of discrimination that they had committed. They also attempted to discredit us and even blamed my child for events which were caused by their failures.

You should obtain their complaints policy and make it official. In my case though the school wouldn't release their complaints policy without the authority of the Head, so I never did find out what they should have done. I'm sure that issuing threats to parents with genuine complaints isn't the norm though, so you may get further than I did.
Good luck.

Thanks schoolshambles that is not good. I think the complaints procedure might be on the school website. Iwill have a look later.

Dd3 only has this term to go so I dont really know if I can be bothered to go formal.

The senco at her new school seems much more on the ball and has a whole team of people working for her so I do get the feeling that things will get done. Hopefully Dd3 will have a statement too.

Pompous twit - now that he's dealt with the all important tone maybe he could address himself to the content! Goodness me I can't believe that with all the crap we have to deal w we need to aslo ensure that all important tone is to everyone's taste. As long as no death threats or insults/abusive lang the tone is fine

Ineedmorepatience · 05/05/2014 18:24
