CAMHS referral for ADHD but I have a diagnosis

Hi. Dd8 has a diagnosis of ADHD and 'a' DCD. However this is a private diagnosis that I got two years ago.

I receive DLA for her.

I am still having lots of issues at school and at home have posted before under other username.

I went to the doctor who referred me back to CAMHS who shut the door in my face the first time hence why I went private.

I've now got an appointment come through for a ADHD assessment. I don't understand as I have a diagnosis! What if they 'un-diagnose' her?

What are they going to do anyway? I'm do bloody confused by the whole thing. Will thus aide me in getting more help at school ?

The issue is most schools seem to accept NHS diagnosis, rather than private ones...

  • You would still get DLA for you DD, as this is based on needs not on diagnosis.

Still go to the appointment, and bring in the diagnostic reports from the private diagnosis and give that to the people who would be assessing your son, to read over.

Hopefully, hey would not un-diagnose her, but I still think you should take her.

Hi op.

Just wanted to offer some support. I found only NHS diagnosis the only way to get the LA to take notice.

Bring what you have with you.

Camhs diagnose & medicate in my experience. My ds was diagnosed at GOSH & we were referred to our local Camhs. They were supposed to help with managing his behaviour but they actually just give us a prescription every 6 months. The were useful in getting ds into an independent AS school though.

Good luck with your appointment.
