Didn't know how to word the title but wandering if anyone knows how this works. Basically we are due to find out what school we have been allocated through the usual admission procedures this week. I am awaiting ds draft statement the following week at which point I will be naming ss, which everyone agrees he needs.

What I'm wandering is how long do I have to get that named before I have to confirm/decline mainstream school place?

The statement should be finalised within 8 weeks from the date it is sent to you. The LA can finalise it more quickly but it would be unusual. So if you want to play safe with the mainstream school place you may as well accept it with a view to withdrawing later, but make it clear to the LA why you are doing it and that it definitely doesn't mean you actually think the mainstream is suitable.

If you get a SSEN issues then that will superseded the normal admissions round. Make sure you keep a copy of any correspondence with the LA to prove your application for m/s was a fall back.
