My ds is verbal but refuses to speak, and also refuses to play one on one, except sometimes throwing a ball back and forth. He usually only amuses himself with objects, or plays with his hands. He does know simple card games but has lost interest. I am about to pull my hair out.

Are there any strategies you know of that could draw him out?

Talkability is a programme which SALT locally runs for verbal children on the autistic spectrum

The book breaks down the different 'stages' of play and gives clear direction so that you can assess where your child is at; so you can figure out strategies to move them on a level.

I found it great.
