School meeting with LEA specialist teachers - should I go?

Ds had a assessment two months ago with these teachers. I haven't seen the report as the school say they didn't have it yet. School are not proactive with coming forward or keeping me informed. I chase things up and it's 50/50 if I get a reply.

There is a review meeting about this report next week. A review against progress for a report I have still not seen. I was invited but there's been no reminder. I emailed today asking to see the report before the meeting and if its still on.

I get no reply should I not go saying I'm not being involved in the process? Or is that just childish? I could book the day off to find its been cancelled. Of I could go and look like a prat as I have no idea what's in this report.

So fed up with the school and its in-proactive ways. Either they are plain useless or forcibly excluding me from the process.

I have my mind 95% sure I'm going to appeal whatever comes out of a statutory assessment knowing that it will only been approached in a half arsed 'couldn't care less' attitude. Ds has another four years at that school before he gets to secondary school age

I would ring the day before to check the meeting is still on. You should go. Presumably the report will be there and you can ask for it to be photocopied immediately so you at least have a copy of that. Also, mention with the specialist teachers that you would like them to contact you directly or cc you in on any emails regarding your Ds.

Ask for the meeting to be recorded and for a copy of the minutes to be given you to. Summarise at the end of the meeting exactly who is doing what and by when.

Arrange a further meeting if appropriate.

I agree 2boys I said to someone today I cant cope with working everyday I need a Dd3 day just to keep up with all the phonecalls, emails and chasing of people who never ring back !!

I always try to go to meetings about Dd3, I have trouble getting the school to remember to invite me though!

I have three kids and work four days. I have thought about dropping a day at work for the last six years! I am my worse enemy.

I seem to thrive on stress and now I can't let anything go. I have to cope, I force myself, god knows why. I need a psych to tell me what's up with me ;0)

There is a report on your child that you have not seen?

Who wrote the report?

You can write to every single agency and inform then that consent to information sharing about your child must be sought for each occasion otherwise they must assume consent is not given. You consider the information confidential and any sharing between agencies a breach of the data protection act. You certainly do not give permission for the sharing or reports you have not been privy to.

.... and listen at the meeting without commenting because they will be trying to sound out your opinions re the Statementing.

You could complain to the LA SN Dept as they will be overseeing these LA specialist teachers from central funding

or

you could complain to the Head cc Chair of Givernors at your school.

Better still - both.

I have been to governors before ( is my eldest a best mates mum). Unfortunately another lot of promised nothing.

The head is pretty useless - unless I'm complaint in writing in a formal way. Then he comes to life....

Just found out the report is being posted and I am invited ( think it was forgotten / bottom of pile).

I fully intend to keep my mouth shut re my hopes for statement. Everyone thinks I was only after assessment for a baseline of needs - I was but this has showny fears for my son was vastly underestimated. I had no idea things was so bad for him. They have shot them selfs in the foot as I really didn't think he was that bad 14 months ago. Just shows how wrong the nhs was with his early years care.

I will only show my hand when I get that statement ( if I get it). Then it's going straight to sendist, I'm not wasting breath doing anything else.

Glad to hear that you'll see the report before the meeting and that the meeting is going ahead.

Try not to feel too down about the situation. You are actually taking steps to get him the help he needed. If you have believed the school he would still be left struggling and no one would be any wiser.

It's a long challenging process but just keep at them because sometimes you can make such a bloody nuisance that it's easier just to give you what you want than to keep saying No and having to deal with you repeatedly. (Not 'you' personally - just a figure of speech).
