Hi who would be good to use to get my teenage sons checked for dyslexia. One already has a statement for another problem. I asked ed psych many years ago if he thought he might be dyslexic and replied definitely not. Last year we requested an ed psych report pre 6th form and lea turned down online screening tests suggest dyslexia.
DS 2 on action + for another disability at mainstream with dyslexia unit. Told Sen Co about reading problems . Said she would ask dyslexia teacher. Never heard back. Classic under performing. Gets very tired.
I therefore want to get independent tests so I know if I'm barking up the wrong tree. We are in west London
Thanks

I have used both Dyslexia Action and a local Ed Psych I had on good recommendation. The local Ed Psych was so much more clued up about local services/intervention at school's disposal which was of infinitely more practical benefit. Her written report was so much better than Dyslexia Action's (which was pretty inpenetrable to a layman or busy teacher). I would personally ask staff in the Dyslexia unit for recommendations of a local EP who has good interpersonal skills and who can write a good report.
