Requesting ADHD assessment referral from GP-what evidence required?

I am seeing the GP this afternoon to request ADHD referral for my DS aged 6.10. On reading the list of possible symptoms on NhS page he has almost all of them! However I am worried I will be fobbed off as heard they are reluctant to refer due to cost. How can I ensure he takes me seriously? TIA

If GP is unhelpful either see another one within the practice or change GP practice. Do not be fobbed off.

Cost should not come into it so this should not be the case at all; if this did happen as well complain to the PCT in your area.

Let us know how you get on. You really need a referral to a developmental paediatrician.

Thank you Attila

I self referred to CAMHS in the end,the senco had referred us somewhere but referred us to the wrong place. I rang CAMHS and they said parents can self refer.

I doubt cost will be an issue as your County Council will have a lock contract with CAMHS. The whole referral & assessment process can take an age though- a year for us in West Sussex! Despite pointy elbows, however, it was worth it in the end, to know what is going on and begin to get your child the help needed.
Good luck!
