SN section in Education?

There's a thread in Site Stuff querying why there's a separate SEN section in Education when this section gets much more traffic. If anyone has any thoughts on it, it would probably be helpful to get some input - it's here - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/1953649-Why-is-there-a-separate-section-for-special-needs-in-Education?msgid=44069097#44069097

Oh dear, its not nice over there is it. I just had to say something but I dont understand why some people feel so threatened by a group of people who dont even know each other but who support each other through some really difficult, stressful times.

Hey ho, there is nowt so queer as folk Confused

You know what though. Many if us do slip up at times (well I do anyhow) and say something under stress that might not be worded well. I have been pulled up a few times so know I do it. Perhaps there was an odd time when I said something and wasn't!?

Though even if that were the case it woukd be a bit silly to dismiss a whole board and invaluable support on the basis of a one-off!?

And the implications are that it is institutional. Honestly, I don't get the group think thing. Unless it is mutual respect when arguing perhaps?

One of the best things about this board is that people DO challenge you iysiwm. I know I've been pulled up or questioned in ways that have made me change my perception of things at times.

It's actually really handy to get a totally different perspective on things sometimes when all the professionals in RL are being vague and fluffy & politically correct.

I deffo fail sometimes on the diplomacy front, but I think almost everyone does at some point given the amount of RL stress we all face at various points. At least on here though you know when someone posts something that rubs you up the wrong way occasionally that their intentions are coming from a good place & not the desire to prioritise the school vegetable patch.

There are some incredibly intelligent posters on here and some VERY strong characters, so I gotta just have a good snigger at the idea of "group think".

TBH, even if you were a nest of biggotted twits with bullying posts and unwelcoming in-jokes I would STILL post and read here if it was helping me help ds, helping me to organise my thoughts, giving me a trial run of a tricky meeting, pointing to me to legislation that goes against my beliefs or actions etc.

Because THAT is what this board is. It helps that you're all luffly, but it isn't why I'm here.

Given that a good proportion of us have kids with ASD (as per the thread in chat) and that a good proportion of us, as their parents, realise where they inherited it from, the idea of group think is quite laughable, really!

Group think?

Herding cats more like.

Right, I'm off to bump the 'in joke' explanation that is geese and honking. Thanks for reminding me! Wink
