DLA home visit to see if young person can manage the payments

Has anyone had one of these and what did it entail? My daughter is approaching 16 and I have signed the forms saying she will not be capable of managing the DLA payments herself.

Yes - for my DS who was just over 16 when we made a claim for DLA for the first time. It was fine. I had also said that DS (HFA) would not be capable of managing the payments himself - and obviously I had discussed this with DS who agreed. The (friendly!) lady from the DLA spoke to me and DS together and really she just wanted to confirm with DS that he was happy for me to receive the payments on his behalf. She did ask him a few questions about how confident he was dealing with money - DS admitted he had no problems spending it but couldn't deal with any paperwork, telephone calls or organisation! Them the DLA lady just confirmed that I accepted that although the money was being paid into my account it was DS's money!

Thanks, pannetone. She is coming on Wednesday after school. My daughter probably won't stay in the room for very long anyway!

We had a similar visit for my Ds when he turned 16. It went along the same lines as pannetone's except that we all agreed that it should be reviewed when ds is 18. I agreed that in his case that was reasonable.
