Stars in the Skies is a North London dating agency for people with learning disabilities. Suzanne Lynch's tender, often funny film follows several clients as they try to find company, friendship and possibly love. The beauty of the programme is the scenes it brings us of romance reduced to its innocent essentials. The daters have a directness that most couples wouldn't attempt. When Apu and Tamanna meet at a coffee shop for their awkward first date, she soon cuts to the chase with "are you enjoying the date?" to which Apu responds, "Yeah, I'm enjoying it." "Mmm, so am I," she says. The debate about whether people with learning disabilities have the same rights to love and sex as anyone else is barely touched on, but it doesn't need to be: the whole programme is a resounding "yes".
