After Merton Borough turned down my son's Statement request and appealing to a higher source, they have finally agreed to issue a Statement for my 5 year old, who started school in September this year. All the fighting and form filling has finally paid off.

I was prepared to take them to court in January, if need be, so relieved the have come to their senses.

My wish is not to simply boast at our good fortune but hope that our situation may provide hope for anyone in a similar situation.

Well done!! LEAs will sometimes buckle if they're smart enough to see that they will lose the appeal.

Great news! I hope Surrey follow suit with me. Glad to also hear they didn't wait till the last minute to back down. With statutory assessments stopping in September this is the right time for parents to take a stand while they still have the chance. Nothing ventured nothing gained

I think it's worth a big boast. Well done you for sticking to your guns. It's an amazing job! :)

Excellent news and thank you for posting it. I hope it encourages others to appeal too.
