Cost of assessment for student in post compulsory education

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help with the following: I am a tutor in HE and have a student who has a specific learning disability. He wants adjustments which the organisation say are not supported by his report. The organisation would subsidise the cost of updating the report. The student says that is unacceptable and that he is entitled to have the entire cost of the assessment met for him. Does anyone know the answer to this? I have tried searching on line but without success.

Hi I work in HE and generally we fund half the cost of assessments through the Access to Learning fund. In certain circumstances (eg hardship, student may have dependants or be a care leaver for example we may fund the whole cost). With a post 16 assessment the student should be able to apply to SFE for DSA and will then get funding for a lot of support depending on need as assessed by an approved Needs Assessment report (funded by SFE).

You should have a Student Services dept within your organisation. You should direct the student there for specific advice but generally assessments are not fully funded.

The students union often cofund assessements.

The student is right, you are not charging able bodied students so you are discriminating against him because of his disability.
