PECS- what are they please? (not the muscle group)

paediatrician said that it is something the statementers should be looking into with Sam. I know full well I will ahve to do the leg work myself, but also know that now I have a DX they will have to give a bit (surely?).

SALT ahve a 1 year waiting list, we did see the BIBIC salt. His speecha nd language in manyw ays are fanatstic- 10 yr old level- I think she meant to help communicate in groups, where he falls down. I guess that is it anyway?

Peachy,PECS can be fantastic when used with the right people.
If your ds has such good language,I'm really surprised that the paediatricinan recommended this.Actually,I'm not.They often think they know stuff about communication that they don't.

The only people I would listen to would be either a very experienced special needs teacher,or a SALT or maybe a psychologist with reference to this.

You need to attend a basic training course to implement it,as would the teacher or SALT.Ask if they have attende the 2 day course.If they haven't (they may splutter something about 'knowing the basics anyway') then forget it.

Nope, BIBIC didn't recommend PECS, must say I ignored it before as I thought it wouldn't be helpfult o Sam.

He does have SPD thopugh- it's his descriptive language that is so hot.

SALT, unfortuntely, have a one year waiting list but I will telephone the BIBIC salt tomorrow I think, see what she says. She's the only one he ahs seen anyway. His teachers- does the phrase bloody useless mean anything to you???

I suspect they mean you should use visual timetable (I agree- for any autistic kid) which is NOT PECS- peope with only a vague idea though think it is.

A prevuiously non-verbal child who is starting to speak needs to continue with PECS, but I not one who is fully verbal, except as timetables and can be useful for literacy etc.
