Told quantification not needed in Part 3 as ds is now in resourced MS

Feel so miserable tonight as conceded in review of placement meeting, where nothing had been really discussed up front, to them removing 30 hours 1:1 TA support, plus they say that OT, Physio, SALT doesn't need to be quantified as 'it's an all inclusive package, that is why we fought so hard to get him in', said the EO (NB guilt trip). Apparently in my county kids in Special Schools and Resources don't get quantification of therapy on statements. Am sending an e-mail tomorrow to challenge and request quantification. Also fallen foul of a National scam where provision moved from part 3 to part 6 therefore unenforceable. How can they all sit there and agree to something so unlawful ?? I feel sad for the Resource Head, as I think he is a decent bloke and think my ds needs will be met, but around us therapy resource is being cut to special schools and resources so where does that leave us with a statement not fit for purpose ?? Any experiences or tips gratefully received.

Have you actually agreed the Statement? Ie signed and returned to the LA? If not, don't do it - go through and put back in all the specified and quantified parts.

What a difficult situation though, if you have actually agreed it. I'm not sure where you'd stand legally other than put in an appeal with SEND.

But I only know how it works with a Statement in mainstream school, so the situation in SS may be different. But whatever else, provision does, as you say, need to be in Part 3 not Part 6.

But it would be worth reposting this in SN Children, that board tends to get a lot more traffic and has many posters who know their legal stuff well. Ask MN if they can move this thread.

So sorry, it sounds like you were well and truly taken by surprise and bullied into it Angry

My son is in at an independent specialist school with statement. Nothing is quantified but it is worded that he needs a "specialist one to one programme" speech therapy, OT etc but no actual hours. Because it is a specialist school I have met with them and planned all his needs on his IEP (in theory!!) part 6 outlines medical provision which NHS provide, namely physio visits school and the fact that he needs time off school for hospital appointments etc, but again nothing quantified. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_needs is probably a better place to put your question. This board gets very little traffic
