SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Some hinks would be great to help me to remain calm and not fall apart at Dd3's school later!!

So the new year hasnt started well for Dd3, teachers changing rules without prior warning. A horrible experience at an off site activity and just a general lack of awareness has led to her being on the verge of school refusal Sad

Today we have we have a meeting with Teachers, HT and SENCO to begin to sort it out. I have to go on my own because DP has to take Dd3 home. I am well prepared, I have made lots of notes but I am still very nervous.

I attend big TAC meetings for children I work with but it is so different when there is emotional attachment involved.

I really need to hold it together and get my point across.

Wish me luck Smile

good luck Ineed honk honk Smile

my dd3 isn't having a great start to the term either

iwanttoscream · 17/09/2013 09:21

Wishing you luck, put down some bullet points. So you can refer to them later when you are in the meeting, as it's so easy to forget things especially when your nervous.

AgnesDiPesto · 17/09/2013 10:16

Honk!
Our year has not started well either for the same reasons - making assumptions and not communicating with us. Every new teacher it's the same.

hazeyjane · 17/09/2013 11:21

Sending you lots of honks (and a few hinks, as asked for in title!)

You will hold it together, and kick ass.Smile

Thinking of you, hope it goes really well.
Let us know!

Ahh thanks all I have just noticed that I put hinks in the title GrinBlush of course I meant honks

Well the meeting went well, I managed to stay calm and in control. I was able to explain some of Dd3's issues much more clearly than I think I have before. The HT and SENCO were excellent and backed up what I was saying.

The two teachers listened and asked some sensible questions despite one being slightly defensive but I can understand that she may have felt like that.

I was definitely able to explain how complex Dd3 is and I think when we left everybody had a clearer understanding of some of her difficulties.

Obviously the goal we are all working towards is Dd3 being able to tell someone at school if she is upset but that has been on going since preschool and we havent cracked it yet but in the meantime the SENCO has a couple of ideas to try to de stress Dd3 before she comes home.

Thanks again for the honks everyone, this week has been truely stressful and I didnt know if I would get through the meeting without falling apart.

Oh and meant to say I didnt have to go on my own in the end because a lovely friend took Dd3 home with her.

And I did take notes with me and I did refer to them. Smile

Sounds like it was a good meeting and hope it has positive outcomes.

Ineedmorepatience · 17/09/2013 20:02

Thankyou, I actually am really proud of myself Smile

I felt that I took the role of Lead Professional and led the direction of the meeting. Which of course is what I do at work [except I am not usually the LP]

I started by saying that Many people think that all children with Asd have a special talent and that I believe Dd3's special talent is masking her difficulties at school. I said she works really hard at it and it totally exhausts her!

It certainly made them sit up and listen! I dont think they were expecting me to take charge like that Grin

I am pooped now though Sad
