Why is it soooo difficult to get an appointment with Daphne Keen

I have managed to get hold of Joy Williams, her secretary now several times. She takes my details and informs me she will pass onto DK but then I never hear back. Anyone else had this problem?

Yes. I think most of us have wondered about the secretary. I think you just have to phone every day so that she remembers prioritises you.

Perhaps get her email address and then send her an email asking her to pass it on!?

sophj100 · 20/08/2013 17:49

Not with her but I have a habit of becoming a real pain and ringing constantly and at some point they do get back to you, if only to get you off their back!

Daphne Keen is very good and very popular - she diagnosed my eldest son 2 years ago. Alternatively, there is Dr Serena Haywood, who is also top of her game and comes under the same authority, who diagnosed by youngest 2 months ago.

Just seen some paperwork from her and a fax is another option. Seems very out-of-date, rather than an email but harder to ignore than a phone message.

Her Fax is: 020 8725 0598

Good luck.

We emailed Daphne Keen direct and she got back to us very quickly and we got a cancellation!

Oh thank you everyone. Ok I will keep trying with Joy then and also try the fax number given. Scottish - would be great if I could have her email address too please so I can contact DK directly?

What assessment does Dr Keen use to diagnose?

Does she assess adults too?

Could someone PM me please how much Dr Keen charges? Is that for whole assessment and diagnosis?

Oh does she give an ICD-10 or DSM-V diagnosis (just interested to know re both are different now).

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/08/2013 19:33

IIRC she doesn't use anything specific. She's been doing it for decades and will read every scrap of information you send her in advance. She knows the assessments inside out and any areas of doubt she'll clarify by using the appropriate tool iyswim. If she isn't certain of a dx, she'll say that pointing out what is consistent with a dx and what isn't, or what areas are lacking evidence.

I don't think she does adults as she is a paediatrician.

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/08/2013 19:33

Her charges are a bit below £1k now.

Thank you Star :)

we have an appt with Dr Keen coming up. What type of info should I send? I have loads of paperwork - can you send too much?

osospecial · 21/08/2013 21:33

I saw DK last week, I sent her every report dd had received previously so paediatrician, OT, speech therapist, educational psychologist etc anything that was relevant really. I also wrote some notes myself and sent her those. She sent us a questionnaire for the school to complete.
BTW when we saw her she said the report might be slightly delayed as her secretary is off for 2 weeks. It cost us £760 for 2hrs assesment and the report. Keep trying and the secretary does eventually get back to you, we waited around 3 months for the appointment, it took about 3-4 weeks from the first call to get the appointment date. HTH

blossbloss · 21/08/2013 21:46

We saw DK recently and sent her copies of every report we had on DD. There were a lot including ones from speech therapists, OTs, physios and paediatricians as well as ones from a dyslexia assessor, swimming teacher and private tutor. When we saw her she had thoroughly read them all and cited many in her report.

It also took us a while to get an appointment and we did have to persevere to get it. It was worth the wait though and her secretary was very helpful once we got through. The report came through quickly after the appointment and was very thorough.

I think her secretary is away until the 5th September.

Hope this helps.
