I requested some info on this a while ago and we have just been phoned by an OT who is coming out next week to assess Amelia and our set up at home.

Has anyone had a disabled facilities grant please? and if so, what sort of things do they consider?

Basically any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

going through the process now, it's been a bit of a struggle , mainly to do with an incompetent ot at teh start, but we have new one now so it seems to be going more smoothly

they look about the hosue and see what needs to eb done, not just for the immediate future, but for forward planning as well

and whatever they say to you, they do actually have to take into account the rest of teh family as well nowadays, and how their lives are impacted

I suppose we are really after some help in general with things like a downstairs toilet especially. I have been toilet traing for 2.5 years now and at long last getting somewhere but it is a nightmare to have to get her up and down the stairs all the time.

Our bathroom and toilet are seperate and both tiny, I have to sit in the hall with the door open when she is on the toilet or in the bath.

Her bedroom is only a box room so we have to undress her andcarry out her sensory therapy in the front room. OK now but as she gets older, not exactly idea.

Her speech & language books, flash cards, Downs Ed folders...etc are just taking over our dining room.

Stupid things are getting to me and she is just so constantly draining ATM. Into absolutely everything. I feel our home is turning into a fortress.

Sorry, I know there are other much worse off than me but it is just all getting to me, I feel so drained.Sad

It doesn't sound very promising then does it? Am I expecting too much for some help towards these costs?

So angry with the system, perhaps if we didn't have to pay privately for SALT,OT,sensory therapy/input we wouldn't need the financial help.
