Does anyone know if Ipsea deal with 16-19 yr olds?

I have a problem with ds2 (17) in Y12 at sn school. His school are moving across the LEA border. The new place is over an hour away and will no longer offer him the same curriculum. They are moving into a unit in a FE college where there isn't an appropriate course for him.

He is therefore leaving to go to the local FE college about half a mile form home where they do do an appropriate course but I have today received his moving on plan which says he doesn't need any support other than for travel training! The school's unit in the college 26 miles away would give him his own 1:1 full time from the school's own staff. His statement would remain in place because he would still be on the school roll. School seem to think staying on at school going to the college further away would be best for him because he would have 1:1 and staff he knows and his friends are all there but in his moving on plan seems to be saying the complete opposite in that he doesn't need 1:1 at all

I rang the woman at the LEA who does the LDA document and she said she couldn't change anything that the school had contributed so I rang school and the head of 6th form said he couldn't write that ds needs a 1:1 as he doesn't have one at school. That is only because its a sn school and there is one teacher and 2 TAs in the class of 6-10 students.

Don't feel able to send him to college without support of 1:1. I showed the moving on plan to the head of sn at college and she said that as it stands, what was written in the moving on plan would not attract enough funding for a 1:1, It seems school are penalising him for leaving

Have no idea what to do :(

Yes Ipsea do deal with 16-19. I recently rang for advice about my Ds 16's placement in a 6th form at another school.

The choice you are being forced to make is awful but statements don't apply at FE colleges and the support is not enforceable.

That was one reason I wanted Ds to go to another school (current school doesn't do post-16) rather than the FE college. The other being that it is far to big and anonymous and he would never cope even though they offer the same A levels.

I have found the whole post 16 thing confusing though so I suggest you do ring IPSEA.
