I'm Sorry, this is awful but- DS' tic is driving me crazy!

DS has physical and vocal tics.
Normally they're, at worst, mildly distracting.

He's got one at the moment though that I don't think I can stand anymore!

Imagine a scream backward. That's what he does.

My poor head aches. DD looks traumatised.

It's been 3 weeks. Make it stop!

Sorry, I know there is nothing that I, or he, or anyone can do about it, but had to get it off my chest :(

Thank you zzzzz :)

Had to type my frustration out on here. "Be Quiet!" was on the tip of my tongue and was scared I'd snap and stress him out more.

My son shouts out at random. I can just about take it. My dh is very sensitive to noise and tells him to be quiet in a droney voice. I find that worse than the shout.

NeedToMoan · 30/05/2013 17:13

"Jars my soul" . Lol zzz that is exactly it. I don't notice the shout so much anymore unless we are in 'normal' situations. I very rarely have a drink though, even the slightest hangover and that shout rips through the guts of me.

TheSitChewAceChien · 30/05/2013 17:49

NeedToMoan does your son say 'things' or just shout random noises? (Just being nosy!)

DS has gone through a "Gas!Gas!Gas!" stage, various odd noises, and right now this scream thing.

Feeling a bit calmer now, he's been sent for a shower, and is quieter for now

Hi a lot of it is loud echolalia but he is given to making random noises out of the blue which would wake the dead. The echolalia I can take, it's ongoing and I tune it out but the unexpected shouts are not for the faint hearted. Lol I'm so used to it that mostly I find it funny, I am more stressed by the effect it has on others. He also has a habit of getting me to repeat phrases back at him, the exact way he has said it. I indulge him with this in case it is good for his language development but I find it embarrassing if we are out!

2old2beamum · 30/05/2013 20:07

DD makes "slurping" noises with her mouth! Drives me loopy. I try very hard to ignore it.
You all have my sympathy

TheSitChewAceChien · 30/05/2013 21:03

Our DS' sound very similar NeedTo!

Oh 2old2be, slurping, nightmare! DS does a horrible fake cough which is bad enough!

Ds current tic is a burp, a constant burp. It makes me feel sick when we are in the car. He has had this one for about a month, can't wait for it go.

I mentioned them to paed and she said CAMhS will help with them. Confused

NeedToMoan · 31/05/2013 10:01

Oh mine is doing the burp thing too. That one comes and goes, don't think he can keep it up.

Theycallmestacy · 31/05/2013 11:44

They all seem to last a few months, hope he can't keep the burp one up. Nobody has looked in disgust yet, and none of the kids in school have mentioned it but it's only a matter of time.

NeedToMoan · 31/05/2013 11:49

I know it's terrible but I have difficulty not laughing at the burp thing. He is only 5 and gives a very beautiful, wide eyed grin after. I have to tell his brother not to laugh too so we don't encourage him.

QueenofWhispers · 01/06/2013 09:47

I know how you feel! DS has been spit flicking for months now. It started in February and IS STILL HERE! I cannot handle it.

Ellenora5 · 01/06/2013 13:09

Oh the tics, ds is also on snorting at the moment, the random shout has lessened though so that's something. He has also done the repeat it back to me, it got very tiring, his therapist told me to say to him that I will repeat it three times only and only twice a day so make sure it's a good one you want me to repeat, and believe it or not it actually worked. Mind you he would spend all day looking at the clock checking to see if it was time for me to do it again. I hate clocks, most things are done via the clock in this house, everything is timed. Is it weird that I hate clocks, I really do hate them, as I'm typing he is checking that there are actually 60 seconds in every minute, when that is done he will check there are 60 minutes in every hour. He will also tell me exactly how long I have been using the laptop. Did I mention I hate clocks.

Sorry I sound like a grumpy cow, I'm not usually but it's one of those days

NeedToMoan · 01/06/2013 16:16

I take comfort that the random shout could stop. A snort sounds positively blissful by comparison!
