Aargh CONSTANT chatter driving me round the bend.

I feel a bit crappy today so am easily grumped I think but I seriously wish DS would stop talking about skylanders for 5 minutes. Feel like a right meany but it is non stop, all excitable and wanting an enthusiastic reaction from me and I just cant do it.

Usually I'll utilise obsessions. We made sky stones yesterday, drawing, sticking, cutting, etc so it's not like I don't get involved but good god my nerves are beginning to fray!

Totally know how you feel .in our house at the moment it's Star Wars morning noon and night and its driving me round the bend .No advice I'm afraid just sympathy!

With DS2 it's films that are so bad they're good. Birdemic or Garbage Pail Kids (which is just bad, apparently ) anyone? So wearing...

Can I join you? With DS2 (AS) it's non stop super mario, and with DS1 (currently undergoing dx but AS looking pretty likely) it's non stop Star Wars...

I know the feeling ds 7 seems to have no internal voice he's sitting at my feet playing dr who and every 2 seconds its 'this is the dalek ship' 'the daleks are killing the people' mum...mum... this is the crack in the ship, 'this is the end of the daleks mum (i dont care!!!) thing is when i look at him unprompted he gives an embaressed 'what you looking at me for!' but its ok for him to tell me things when im not wanting to look.

All this is uninterupted with various endless 'remember that day dad was sick in the car' (over a year ago) 'thats clocks too quick' (eh) 'this is ds2's second easter' (yes it is and?) 'remember you said we could go to the beach in the summer? whens that happening' 'how many days' '2 weeks?' dunno ds we'll see '3 weeks' i'll tell you when its happening ds 'i think its 3 weeks or maybe 4 or maybe a MILLION or i dunno' but muuuum..........

It's like a constant noise that you HAVE to listen to. DS has gone to his Dad's and I have to admit I breathed a sigh of relief. [Bad Mummy]

DS's current obsessions are mostly Skylanders at the moment, with a bit of lego, Mario, and Doctor Who mixed in. But mostly Skylanders.

I have the Star Wars, Dr. Who and Star Trek. My son is always interrupting any conversation he can to chatter on and on about either of those subjects. And he is obsessed with the Lego Rancor Pit and Jabbas Palace. He can go for hours and hours about it.

I have DS1 constantly chatting about his minute movements in a computer game that I do not know the name of (he's probably told me eleventy thousand times...).

I have DS2 at the same time talking over the top if him telling me yet another thirty inane jokes from another joke book.

Then I have DS3 going blurblurblurblurbl sticking his tongue in and out over and over again being a frog (his latest obsession)

All the while DD is covering her ears and shouting "make them stop make them stop", as her obsession (in a house with 5 people in...) is total and utter silence just in case SHE wishes to talk to me about shoes.

Aaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhh.

I have actually stolen DD's ear defenders on occasion...

Blimey couthy that is a lot to take in! [awe] I think I'd be sat rocking in a corner clutching a bottle of wine!

Lots of common interests going on, shame we cant stick the ones with similar obsessions together isn't it.

Would anyone mind if I join in too. My bloomin ds is going on and on about wrestling - he's currently also into making printed tops for wrestling and that's all he talks about day and night! Then there's my daughter chattering about anything and everything that takes her fancy.

Will someone make it stop please.

Oh dear couthy, that's an awful lot of chattering. Good idea about the ear defenders. Think ill order myself some!

Getting them all together is a brilliant idea .My ds could talk to other children who care about the friggin separatists and the republic .Plus dd2 is shouting and trying to stop any toys being tidied away

DD with ASD only speaks if spoken too and we need to encourage her to talk...and work on getting her to want to communicate.
Her NT brother on the other hand never stops talking, its like a stream of conscientiousness - as soon as he thinks it, he says it, which drives both DD (and me) to distraction sometimes!

Hello! Had to smile whilst reading this thread! My DS is exactly like this and his current number one obsession is Club Penguin! The Club Penguin constant chatter is non stop from first thing in the morning till last thing at night. He will literally open his eyes and say 'Mummy I think today's the day I will get my golden Puffle' !! Aghhh!!! I have lost count of the number of obsessions he's had recently. None of them ever disappear they just take turns at being his most favourite with a new one joining the fold every few weeks! Recent obsessions; Skylanders, Bin Weevils, Moshi Monsters and Mario (a firm favourite!!!)
Got to love their dedication :) X

Hopefully they will put their passion and enthusiasm to good use when they are older!

Simone yes my son never abandons an obsession either, they tend to get rotated, and a new one added in now and then when something takes his fancy.

Thank goodness my DS does eventually abandon his obsessions. The David Bowie one lasted for about 4 years but I no longer have to listen to him in the car and DS can't remember every track length in minutes and seconds anymore!

We get Dr Who. Although tbh we just get non stop talk. 14 years. Non stop chat.

Ah, but Doctor Who can never be abandoned, new series keep coming along. It was my obsession as a DC, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, never missed an episode, took time off from parties, even my sister's wedding. The apple doesn't fall that far from the tree, does it!

I get a bit obsessed with things too but have the awareness not to go on and on about them. I don't mind a bit of Doctor Who talk, it's all the bloody video game talk that's boring me to tears at the moment!

I must be a horrible mum! I told DS1 who went on about Pokeman (Pokepants in this house) endlessly that I was not interested, and I would only have a conversation about a subject that we both knew about. It worked! So now he talks endlessly about the Industrial Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars! Oops!

Fifa or real life football here. Which I don't mind, because he's outside getting exercise. What I do mind though is the repetitive rehash afterwards and complete re-writing of what actually happened in our game - 'remember when I scored 25 goals against you' no I remember getting 10 past you including a fantastic shot in the corner from miles away but you said that didn't count - yet if I say anything other than "yes of course the score was 25:nil" then there will be a meltdown.

DS2's latest has been reciting production companies on all programmes. He has to watch through ALL credits on ALL programmes, then memorises the production companies and records them in his VTech camera, as well as reciting them in a sing-song voice (at the volume of a shout) ALL DAY LONG. Between that and nonstop asking for the Nexus to play with - it literally doesn't even seem like he stops to take a breath - just constant verbal stuff. I find myself getting a bit jittery after awhile with a throbbing headache. It's been constant all day for the last 2 weeks while they've been off school.

And if you tell him to stop, he just looks at you, blinks, then keeps going. aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

DS likes to list the names, colours and a brief description of every Mr Man and Little Miss. There are loads of them! And when the list is finished he simply loops back to the beginning and recites them all again. It's not too bad on a good day, but TORTURE on a bad one!
