Epilepsy -I'd like to change hospital but to which one?

Ds is being seen for absence seizures. They've been uncontrolled for 2.5 years. No specific complaints about his current consultant who is actually lovely and helpful.

But it is a small hospital and this doc is the only epilepsy expert there and I'm so worried about the impact of both the epilepsy and the medication on ds. He has made no academic progress for a year and is going more and more into his own little world. I really want a second opinion.

He has dx of GDD and ASD so of course it is tricky to know what's what.

Anyway after that little ramble back to point. How do I get his care transferred to another hospital? And where shall I go? I'm in surrey/London borders so St Georges, Evelina, GOSH, Kings are all a possibility - tho the last 2 are a trek.

any advice welcome

If yiu are Surrey / London borders then the tertiary level is at the Evelina for most things. We are in the same area and although epilepsy is not DS's 'specialiasm' we do go to the Evalina regularly and the dr's we've seen know their stuff.

You can just ask to be referred, I asked our community paediatrician to refer us to the Evalina when I lost confidence in the local, no specialist, orthopaedic surgeon. I said I had lost confidence and wanted transferring, they offered me the linked hospital in the trust or the Evalina and I took the bigger one!

I take my son to see his specialist at Goring Hall hospital in Worthing every 2 months and have found them very good.
