Hi I'm not sure if this is where I should be posting this as I'm new to here but here goes... I have a little boy with additional needs and are planning taking him on holiday with us in autumn but need something for him to sleep in! I'm thinking travel cot type but must be light/portable (for flying with), fairly stable, and suitable to stand up in/out of the top. He has a habit of wandering off and hiding so want him enclosed near me so I can keep an eye. At the mo he is approx 110cm long, and outgrown most travel cots.

would a bed tent work?

There seem to be quite a few links to US sites if you google "special needs travel tent bed"

Or, think my 5 year old godson is targeting 110cm tall for a ride his brother can go on, so is your son 4ish? Might this be of use for a while?

Or even something like privacy pop bed - the US seem to be hotter on this than the UK.

Sorry if this as an idea is completely out - not sure it will meet the standing up/out of the top criteria?

I did wonder about the nomad tent but not sure if it would last long. The privacy bed is fab! Am going to look into it more. USA always seem to have so much more than us. Thank you

My little boy with ASD uses a nickel bed tent which we orderedfrom the USA with an inflatable mattress (he also uses it at home with a proper mattress). Very light weight and secure. They are on back order at the moment. Due in again end of march. The Aerobed single mattresses fit very well. You can buy them online.

Thanks whenwilligetsomesleep I viewed that but thought for traveling it looked too big! Have you used it when traveling? Am planning on useing it when we fly later this year

Hi Mummieslove sorry for the delay in replying. I have used it for travelling many times and its an absolute godsend. It hardly weighs anything and takes up little space in your bag. I think the website has a photo to show it packed down to the size of a loaf of bread! What does weigh more is the inflatable mattress. However if you were staying somewhere with an extra single bed you could just use the mattress from that and slide it into the bed tent. I cannot express enough how much this bed tent has changed our lives. It stops my son wandering off and its lovely and light and airy. I lay in it first when we got it and it's lovely - I wish I had one for myself! My son went from constantly trying to escape his cot to sleeping soundly through the night when we got it. It seems to provide extra comfort for him. Because he has one on his bed at home when we travel it means its like taking part of home with him and he settles really fast. Do be aware she is on back order and you will have to pay import duty but in my opinion its worth it. I know another person who has one for her daughter and loves it too :) Maybe email them and ask when she would be able to send you one first if you decide to go for it. Any questions just ask
