Help with appealing a decision on which assesment unit my dd will attend pls

Hi, my dd has been put on a waiting list to attend an assesment unit for two terms. I was happy about this until I visited the unit where I left feeling a bit deflated without really knowing why, I just didn't really like it there.
I was told this unit was the only option as the other one (same distance away in opposite direction) wasn't in our catchment area, I didn't question this at the time as the unit they were offering is also the closest to my work so this was a positive as i could take her myself.
but this week as im still unsure about this unit I started thinking maybe I should visit the other unit and see If I prefer it, I've heared good things about it and heared that it always used to accept children from my town by somebody that used to work there (finished 2yrs ago so didn't know if it changed now)
So I spoke to dd early years senco and was told I can appeal the decision to which unit dd attends by sending a letter to somebody in education dept. I've arranged to visit the other unit Thursday.
If I want to go ahead and try get dd a place in this unit instead, any advice on what to put in this letter to appeal please?
btw I think this other unit is actually a bit closer to us and all the secondary schools in this town are counted as being in our catchment area.

Nothing gets this kind of thing sorted like a request for a SA!

How does a statutory assesment differ from a preschool assesment done by the ed psyc? She was seen by ed psyc at beginning of jan, does that mean she has had a SA?

No. That's not a SA. You would have been informed and asked to submit evidence/your views and a decision would be made withing 6 weeks whether or not to carry out the assessment. Then, if an assessment is carried out, you would be asked for more details and issued with either a statement or a note in lieu, with the provision detailed.

I saw the 2nd assesment unit Thursday and really liked it. Decided that this is where i wanted dd to go and was getting ready to appeal. Then an amazing thing happened, I was told unofficially yesterday that in the assesment panel meeting 2weeks ago it was decided that dd would be offered a place in this unit anyway as a place has come up there first! So much for it not being an option according to the ed psyc. So not only can dd go to this one but there is a place there as well already. I'm really trying to not get too excited until I see it in black+ white (apparently the letter in the post) so I'm sitting here waiting for the postman and praying that this is true and for once something has just gone our way without a battle

Thanks, well just had the letter and it does name the unit I wanted but says its currently full and dd will be on their waiting list and I need to send confirmation back that I am happy with this unit. Confused as I thought there was a place available but at least it's the unit I wanted which is great, maybe a place is coming up soon and they just can't tell me that officially yet
