Well after a week of illness,ds is in hospital with pneumonia. We went to A+E yesterday morning, and he was admitted on o2 and iv antibiotics. We are in again tonight, because his o2 levels keep dipping into the 80s. They have ordered a sleep study when he is well,as they are wondering if he does this anyway. Just want to be home now.

We fill the room with oxygen as DS is the same. 100% oxygen in the air, at least he gets some rather than none. Chest physio is good but suction is bloody horrible (glad you didn't have to encounter that! )

It takes it out of everyone when your Dc are in hospital. It is hard holding it together, I don't blame you collapsing. Get a good rest.

imogen, it's tough but some aspects of his life is worse x

Hazey, try and do the Physio at least twice a day I would say 7 minutes each side would be good. It does get tiring for you the back slapped though. Cupped towel, folded towel, something entertaining on the tv and off you go. Bugger that they couldn't get a sputum culture though. Have they given him two weeks of anti-biotics?? DD is halfway through a 14 day course and looking so much better after the first week. Good old Augmentin. Off to GOSH tonight for another CPAP sleep study and then seeing the respiratory consultant tomorrow. Poor little DS - I am glad he is home, and glad that he is as they say here a "red box" patient. Good to bypass A&E in cases like this.

Cupped towel? Hand tsk!!

Hi Hazeyjane - sending you lots of positive thoughts, glad you are now home.

DD also suffers from this, she spent the week before Xmas hooked up to an IV and O2, as her sats were in the 70s, and it's horrible not being able to help them. She's also due to have sleep studies and additional blood tests to check her immune system.

Sounds like you need to collapse Hazey. Hope Ds is better soon and that something positive comes out of the tests.

Devientenigma - that is interesting about the o2 in the room, in the end with ds, i had to kind of drape the mask around my shoulder, and just waft it around. he freaked out as soon as saw the mask, and i think he mostly hated the noise of the air coming out.

Sally, we have done a chest physio session this morning, with ds, lying on his side (his right lung is the one with suspicious patches, so concentrating mainly on that one) warm towel over him, and Fireman Sam on the tv - he was in heaven! He is on a 10 day course of augmentin - he had 4 days through an iv, so it will be 14 days altogether, on top of the 5 days of amoxicillin he had before that - needless to say he is producing some fairly volcanic nappies!

Metanium and Vaseline for the sore botty. I found that worked best when DD was in nappies. Smile

Glad you're home. A tired, drained but heartfelt honk to you.
