Hi all, I am new to mumsnet. My 3 yr old son has type 1 Diabetes and I am struggling to find other parents of children with this debilitating condition. Are there any other mummies/ daddies on here whose children have it?

Hi TJ.
This would probably get more responses in the Health Section, under Children's Health.
This section is more to do with learning/educational needs.
Welcome to MN. Smile

Hello,

What you really need is the Children with Diabetes mailing list - here - www.childrenwithdiabetesuk.org/children-with-diabetes-email-and-mailing-lists/mailing-list-england/

This section ought to be for anyone who's child has a special need, but unfortunately it is dominated by parents of children with one particular type of need so there aren't many other people in here. The exclusiveness is a bit disheartening, really.

The mailing list is great though.

This board is dominated by the people who POST on it Bertha!

Not sure why that is disheartening.

Waving at you. DS 2 was diagnosed when he was 8.

Hi, I have an 11 year old diagnosed a couple of years ago. I go on facebook forums and they are very busy with lots of parents asking advice, giving support, information etc see Diabetic Mums Uk, What mums and dads need to know to help children with type 1 diabetes plus if you search facebook there are probably others if your son has a pump.

Personally I believe there are that children with diabetes have problems with their learning and educational needs, lack of support and understanding in schools is a HUGE problem for our children. There are children who get a Statement to provide their child with support. If children's medical needs are not dealt with appropriately they can not learn effectively! Anyway rant over.

Good luck and I'm sure you'll be on your way to finding a whole new community xx

Starlight, it is disheartening that someone comes in here to post about something that's not ASD and gets told to trot off to the Health section because this is the wrong place for them.

And of course its dominated by the people who post on it, how else would you dominate it? Confused
