ds2 (13) has been urgently referred to the hospital , i think cancer is suspected and i am terrified.

i took him to the gp with a swelling in his neck , underneath his adams apple. i also thought he may have lost weight but hasnt been weighed for 18 months so not sure if hes just grown upwards iyswim as he has gone very tall and skinny despite eating lots.
he had a blood test to check his thyroid and other stuff. something in the test came back abnormal . he also has a small pea sized lump at the side of his neck . The gp got on to the hospital straight away yesterday and also spoke to another doctor about him. they have just phoned to say he has an appointment at the hospital on monday...so super quick !

i have a terrible gut feeling about this but i am prone to being anxious. i am trying my best to keep calm but my stomach is churning and i am snapping at everyone .
please tell me something positive

Good that he will be seen quickly. No point speculating until they tell you more. Write down your questions. Possibly post in child health as there are people on here who have been in your shoes. Good luck.

I cant pass by without wishing you well and will be thinking of you and your DS.

Child Health may be a good resource as ohmeohmy said.

If it is any sort of lymphoma please be reassured that its a very treatable form of cancer with very high survival rates. But it might be something much less serious. Thinking of you. X

Hi hun, Sending you hugs thinking of you both.. A friend of mine had a lump in her throat which turned out to be cancerous, they operated really quickly and it was gone as quickly as it was found. You do not know yet so as easy as it may sound for me keep an open mind x

Sorry your dealing with this, cancers a bitch but a beatable one if that's what it is.
Dd2 had lumps in her lymph nodes last year, the GP sent us straight to hospital and dd2 was very poorly.mthry ran around doing blood tests and sorting scans ect. I knew what they though
T it was as she was having all the tests they had given dh before dx.
However, it was just a very very nasty virus and they kept dd2 in for two days. Took two months for lumps to go down.

Do NOT goggle.

sweetteamum · 28/12/2012 20:29

A friend of mine went through the same thing with her son about the same age and she assumed the lump on his neck with cancer too, but it turned out to be infection related, but everyone moved very quickly and it frightened her. My Dad was a GP and I remember him saying once, 'Rare things are rare' and that's what you've got to think between now and Monday, that it is much more likely to be non-cancerous. Will say a little prayer for you. xxx

thriftychic · 30/12/2012 15:29

thankyou , our doc had said he would need to see an endocrinologist but the one we are going to on monday is a peadiatrician at childrens outpatients . i assume it was just the quickest they could get him to .
