So how many schools are having to close on Tuesday for the strike?

DS1's! (sob!). Kitchen staff, TAs, escrots, bus drivers all off so school has to close. Must say the escorts were in a very jovial mood on Friday :o (Although I;m not moaning as ds1's mother's day stuff must have been left on the bus and the bus driver dropped it round to me later on).

oh no! I thought there would be others!!! It can't be just me.....

they are closing our nursery all day, reception class are just there in the morning and limited staffing for the other classes.

Lots of regular primaries and secondaries in our area are closing on Tues.
Ours is open but the junior school next door is shut, as is the primary down the road.
What got me is that it seems that lots of people were only told on Friday and some haven't even been told one way or another yet!
How are people supposed to arrange childcare at that kind of notice?

Dad's school is OPEN - they know nothing of the strikes! (Deepest Darkest Suffolk obviously hasnt caught up with the world!)

Ds's school is closed but dd's is open. Bit of a pain that 'cos I've still got to get them up and out in the morning and have ds all day!

My friend's dd's school is open and she's been given the choice of keeping her dd of school (its not really a choice as there's no-one to look after her with her LSA off). I do agree with the head's decision- well he didn't have any choice. The staff:pupil ratios are generally 1:2 or 1:3 (1:4 at most I'd guess) throughout the school, and the vast majority of pupils use transport. He said in his letter he'd hoped special schools would be exempt from the strike.

But Tuesday at home...... not entirely sure how ds1 is going to react to a Monday at school then suddenly home Tuesday. No chance of going anywhere as I'll have ds2 and ds3 (haven't yet worked out how I'm going to do ds2's nursery drop off and pick up either- might have to do something daft like ring nursery from outside the door and get them to come and pick up ds2, although that doesn't solve how I'm going to get in the car this end, ah well).

Oh well , maybe I will have a lovely happy day together with my daughters!!, oh hold on, I've just woken from my dream!!!!!!!!

We had a note home on Friday saying that any kids who have school lunches would need packed lunches (wish I had that problem!). But nothing else..... I must check up

We are going to be without children. We have all been set work which we can do in the scool, or at home, depending on what our head of department decides.

Thabkfuly ours had decided on 'home'

Ds's came home on Friday with a letter from the head of his Special School (Birmingham) saying:
"As a result of the impending industrial action by Unison and GMB on Tuesday 28 March, I have had to take the decision to close the school because I cannot ensure the Health and Safety of all our pupils"

His Nursery Class and Class 1 had been invited to Walsall Special Schools Spring Festival on that date but, because of the strike, its been cancelled :(

oh surely it will be posponed lrc- I imagine the majority of the special schools are going to be in the same boat. They're really not safe if all the TA's are on strike.

Buts it not..........its my sanity!!!!!!!

We still don't know (should let us know today bit sucky for working parents), but they've never had to close before, however DH will be home (not a TA, but a member of one of the striking unions) so I'm quite looking forward to it.

dd1's school is shut all day, but there is another school not too far from here that is just shut dinner times.

Don't know about dd2's nursery yet.

ds's specila needs school is shut for health and safety reasons regarding the staffing ratio, but dd's school is open and all staff have refused to take part in the strike stating that it would cause too much disruption for the staff, children and the parents!!!

We have also just been informed that there will be no bin collection tomorrow as part of the strike!!! Now whats that about!!!!!!!!!!!?????

Have to confess I read this yesterday, and thought 'What strike?'

Me! DD's school is shut tomorrow. I still have home programme cover. This magical privilege ends after easter. I'm sure I will have a breakdown in the summer holidays. Hope you are OK tomorrow Jimjams. We are going to the Sea Life centre, something I couldn't consider without an extra pair of hands, and I haven't got a baby to look after as well. I really feel for you.

schools round here are all open, but my dsd cant go to work tomorrow becvause the liverpool tunnel will be shut(he commutes from north wales)due to the strike action

butty, the reason the bins will not be collected is that the strike is by UNISON, who have bin men as members. The teachers unions are not on strike. It is the support staff in the schools, bus drivers etc that are on strike. We are closed tomorrow and the teaching staff have been given work to do at home.

Ah JakB glad you've got help today. I am feeling very calm because I know that at easter I have 30 hours + a week of direct payments ready to roll :)

School sent home a worksheet (with symbols) that says something like Today is blue day, Tuesday, no bus no class, sorry. Red Day (Wednesday) yes bus yes class. DS1 keeps taking my hand and putting it on class and bus!
