Have received DLA for 6 months and just got a form to reapply...is this the norm??

After the harrowing ordeal of filling in the DLA forms we were successful in our application. Cant believe we have got to reapply already - apparently if we dont send off the form now they might not have time to process it for September!

At this rate, our life is going to be one epic form filling ordeal :(

Is this the norm?

Sorry, meant to add that we have only been receiving it since December, backdated to September.

Fraid so. I panicked when I got ds' forms early but they reassurred me that it was only to make sure that I still receive payments that I am entitled to. They said it was easier as people who already receive would miss the money more than people who didn't get it yet (if that makes any sense!)

merlot - hopefully you'll get it for longer next time. Our last award was for 4 years (3 from the date of the award but almost 4 from the date of application Angry)- so we thankfully haven't had to do them in a while.

Is it because he is rising 5 and therefore you can apply for mobility? We had this at about this age and I was advised by helpline to write no change.

Our last award was for a six year period so it does get better.

Yes, I found a stiff drink helped last time :)

Maddiemo - he's only 2 1/2 years (but we didnt have a dx last time round, whereas we have now) -I guess they review as often as this when they are this young, just in case things change radically (??)

at 3 you can apply for mobility asd well, that will be why. on your award letter it will state how long he has it for.

I'm sure its because he isn't 5 yet. I think our first one was for 6 mos or a year and then the one after 5 was for a lot longer (must check!)

Our first was for 2 yrs effectively (including the backdated payments) which takes us up to when he is rising 5 and eligible for low rate mobility.
It stated how long for and why on the award letter. Can you check what it says on your award letter?

Hi guys - I'm sure its probably just because he is so little...I will definitely check the award letter, thanks for the advice. At least it looks like I wont be applying every 6 months for ever!

with dd2 i got sent the form 6months before she turned 3 (this time last year) even tho her award didnt end till may this year.

dd1 has been getting DLA since before she was 2, her first award was for about 18months, 2nd one was for 2.5years, this one is for 18months again. she has eczema which ranges from severe to mild when under control. also has asthma and other allergies.

My ds got his first awarded for 18 months. I received the renewal forms 6 months before it ended. Hopefully going to have it all finished this weekend.

I applied for ds2 a couple of months after his 2nd birthday last year. It took them about 5 months or so to process the application but was backdated to the day we asked for the forms. Ds2 had no official written dx at the time. All we had was the Paediatrician's opinion that ds2 had lots of autistic traits etc.

IIRC ds2's DLA doesn't need to be renewed until he is 5yrs old.

Ds1 was 3.5yrs old when we applied. He had a written dx and his DLA award needs to be renewed by his 7th birthday.
