Hello all
I know none of you can tell me what I want to hear but I am feeling so anxious and upset...it's stupid really.
It's ds1s first day back at school today - year 5.
In year 5 He will be expected to be more independent and more mature.
He is 9 and has severe dyslexia (dx) and asd (undx)
He made such great progress last year in y4 and I really hope he can do so again.
I am sat here unable to settle...it's ridiculous!
he will be ok won't he?
I am being idiotic aren't I?
He kept saying he didn't want to go back yesterday :(

That's the problem, as such he doesn't. He has post rotary nystagmus, but it is a physical problem rather than ocular, but this has been reduced as he sits opposite the whiteboard and doesn't have to move position to see.
The OT noticed tracking problems, but his eyes apparently track well. They are now going to do colour overlay assessments as he didn't fail, but didn't pass with 'flying colours' his colourblind test. What they do agree on is that his reading is 'iffy' as is his short term memory. Dyslexia was mentioned twice, but they do not think it is an eye problem as such - vision is fine.
Thing is, it could just be the dyspraxia - short term memory and tracking due to nystagmus?

DD (Y5) is settling well and is happy.

But - what's absolutely amazing is DS (Y7) survived his first day of secondary school!

He hated the teachers, the kids and the uniform.

Tucking his shirt in was torture.

The bell hurt his ears.

Someone from the SEN dept took him out to talk to him about making friends and having Aspergers - which of course he also hated.

But apart from that everything was fine :)
