Ellie is 4 and a half and I don't always know what she is going on about!

Should you be able to understand everything they say by that age then ?? Ds is 3.3 and I certainly can't understand half what he says and my mum can hardley ever understand what he says.

misdee · 12/03/2006 18:00

i dont know nutty. i know dd1 was clearer with her speech at this age, and my neices speech is very clear.

Ds is 4 tomorrow and I still only understand about 1 word in 10!! But his speech is becoming a lot clearer and understandable.
Good god is my little demon 4 already?

DS2 is 5 misdee and I still don't understand 30% of what he says, and he's nt. He does have glue ear though, but apparently it's mainly developmentsl

My dd2 is 4 1/2 I understand around 80% (less if shes in a chatty mood) BUT nursery only understand 50-75 % (different teachers) thats what worries me, especially as she starts school in Sept.

misdee · 12/03/2006 20:30

peachyclair there is a questionmark over dd2 hearing atm. she has another assessment on weds with SALT

dd4 turned 5 at the beginning of feb, and it is only within the last 3mths that I have actually been able to understand her. dd3 had to interpret most of the time. dd4
did attend a SALT but was discharged just before she was 5, which I found surprising. But was assured that her speech was at an acceptable level for her age. She still does not pronounce L, G, R and TH although can when asked. 3 and a half is still young to start worrying Misdee.

Ds is 5.4 & I can understand about 90% but DH only gets about 70%. At 3.5 I was only getting about 30-40% & know how frustrating it can be, especially when some chatty 2 year old tell you her life story with excellent vocab!
