TGI Friday, anyone?

Hello all, can't miss another Friday thread.

I'm back from Cornwall where I failed to see coff33pot but did buy some sweeties from her DH. Boys have gone to their dad's new detached house, not bitter, me for the weekend, so I'm at a loose end, trying to ignore all the housework I could be doing.

How are you all?

With this icing

3 cups icing sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
3/4 cup evaporated milk
3/4 cup butter

Heat cocoa, milk, butter until all melted and just simmering, put icing sugar in mixer bowl and pour on 2/3 of liquid, start to beat, it should be runny if too stiff add more liquid a little at a time. Beat for about 5 mins (it should form thick free flowing ribbons when you drop it from a spoon) If it gets too runny you can always add more icing sugar. Whilst still warm pour over cakes and allow to cool completely.

bucking the trend here but so far school holidays have been generally good, no major dramas, kids pretty chilled out except a bit of out of the ordinary odd behaviour from ds2 (eating wood & speaking to his dinner)
Weather has been great since the kids broke up apart from a couple of days of rain & two weeks left of the school hols.
Silverfrog... can they give you a little top up of blood, works almost instantly & saves faffing around with iron levels & tablets & taking weeks to get back to normal. Worked for me after i had ds1

silverfrog · 17/08/2012 20:22

to be fair, dh is being an absolute star - all the cooking, most of the housework, dealing with the dds etc.

I am trying to avoid a transfusion - so far, so good. I have always been anaemic, and it is rare for my levels to drop this far. even at the hospital, my consultant was reluctant to go for transfusion. but iron tablets don't always do much for me (tend to go straight through - sorry for TMI Blush) so the jury is still out...

hazeyjane · 17/08/2012 20:23

at the thought of choc brownie muffins and earl grey lemon drizzle.....

have had a lovely but knackering few days with lots of the dds friends over, the house has been turned upside down, and ds is all over the okace sleepwise, because it is hard to sleep with 5 x 5/6 year olds rampaging around the house. I wanted to make up to the dds the lack of holiday last week, after ds had pneumonia.

I am very glad it is Friday though, just hoping ds will fall asleep before 10pm...yawn.

signandsmile · 17/08/2012 21:03

just got back to thread, (signing practice went well)
Sad badvoc and wet aug, sounds like a tough week....

im off to bed soon myself... (old fart here, Blush )

Hi all. Great for those who have had good holidays. Sympathise with those who aren't.

Dh is away singing in Germany this week which actually makes things more relaxed. Next week DD and I are going to Edinburgh to see my mum for a few days. I will be leaving Dh and DS to cope together. (They should muddle through I hope.)

Ds has had one of his bad days today - he spent the whole day in the bathroom so plans to get Dd bits she needs for school had to be postponed. Hoping for better luck tomorrow.

Hope everyone manages a reasonably relaxing weekend.

bochead · 17/08/2012 21:58

It's gonna take a year to straighten out the mess DS has made of our home, and I'm too skint for even a few days camping, but otherwise as usual the holiday is SO much easier with no school to upset him. Giving serious thought once more to the joys of home ed.

The excercises we were set by ASD OT + BO have had some impact - DS can now use cutlery, so I'm encouraged to persevere until he can cross the midline. Booked session with BO and will be facing the wrath of the attendance officer next term, so we can visit the BO once a month for 6 months. Determined that year 4 will be the year he learns to read.

Irritated with having to attend meetings re sibling - was hoping for a break from meetings for a while. My Mums in bits over sibling which is also taking away from my selfish summer Mum & son time.

Hi All, just a quick post to say dd and I want to the cinema today ( first time ever- issues with noise crowds and sitting still).

We saw Brave, we've spent weeks reading the story so she knows what to expect. She still got quite anxious and spent most of the film on my lap or wrapped round my head!! But she made it through to the end and enjoyed the experience Grin

lisad123 · 17/08/2012 22:34

Sorry for all those having a horrible week, can remember names and on phone so can't look properly. Blush
This week hmm up and down. Was mine and dh anniversary last weekend so went to hotel spa for night and day which was lovely, sadly the girls gave my parents hell again and think I have used all my lives with them Blush
Had a few more home days which has been nice. Have had 2 pool parties which have been fun too.
Have camping holiday booked next week, can't wait!
Also am off to Disneyland in 2 weeks. Plans to tell girls tomorrow. We have set them a treasure hunt, each clue has word on the back, once collected it tells them we are going!! Very excited.
Have done social story on iPad, which is great.
Have all new uniforms now, as both girls are moving. Dd1 is starting private School and dd2 is starting reception! Just got to get new shoes and bags and we are done Grin

insanityscratching · 17/08/2012 22:39

Good holiday here so far. Ds is unbelievably chilled even with workmen coming in and out. He seems to have chosen to completely blank them so doesn't acknowledge their presence, the noise or the mess. I'm impressed with this new tactic as normally he'd be stressed up to the hilt.
Football season starts tomorrow so he's working himself up nicely so don't expect him to sleep tonight.
Dd seems more autistic than she has been for years, no idea what's going on there other than I think puberty is round the corner. Going to work on a few things before she goes back to school I think.
Taking dd to see Brave this weekend anyone been yet? Is it any good?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/08/2012 22:44

Lola, ^^ has just been to see Brave. I haven't been to the pictures for ages, maybe next week.

Been a busy week here... Now, how to raise £40,000?

lisad123 · 17/08/2012 22:57

Is that your wine bill?! Shocking Wink

Galena · 17/08/2012 22:57

Feels like it should be today!

creatovator · 17/08/2012 23:17

Sneaking back in... dcs finally settled.

Purple thanks for the recipe. Will definitely give it a go.

Haven't seen Brave, but went to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days which I enjoyed as much as the kids Grin Grin.

Sign Glad the signing went well.

Lisa we did Disneyland at Easter. It was good, though hard work for DH and me - generally over food for DS. Actually that's been the hardest factor for all the hols this year, so I reckon we'll need to tackle it next.

Galena that must be amazing wine!

creatovator · 17/08/2012 23:20

Yawn... off to bed now. Have a good weekend everyone.

Galena · 17/08/2012 23:20

I wish! 'tis for DD's op. Bloody NHS probably won't fund, so we need to find £40,000 down the back of the sofa.

lisad123 · 17/08/2012 23:21

What op is it?

mymatemax · 17/08/2012 23:24

fcking hell, why dont they fund an op that is proven to change lives & improve mobility. it is such a false economy as in the long term having a child that achieves greater mobility can save the NHS £££, as they seem to see everything monetary terms surely that must make sense to them.
The eligibilty criterea is so tight most surgeons will only operate if they are very sure of success.

Galena · 17/08/2012 23:31

It's Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) and exactly - will save the NHS money in the long run...

lisad123 · 18/08/2012 08:21

A little girl at dd2 nursery had this done. We did loads of fund raising events as did loads of community to get it for her. Have you considering setting up a fundraiser? Gettin hold of local paper? Saw someone had applied to local asda thing too.
